University of Lancaster - LICA Building
Ralph Capper Interiors were asked to attend project meetings in order to assist the design team with the project’s furniture specification. There was a very limited period in which all furniture, fabrics and finishes had to be specified and our project consultant worked tirelessly to achieve this in time. The project was tendered to various framework suppliers for the University and ourselves and we were appointed as suppliers for the project in Summer 2010.
The specification of furniture throughout was high quality; particularly considering that this is a student facility. The Vitra Level 34 desk system was used in an open plan layout in post-graduate areas, encompassing storage units as well as workspaces. There are a large number of small meeting rooms, lecture rooms and individual offices as well as some flexible open plan working and learning environments. We supplied portable screens on castors with writing boards and acoustic panels incorporated and the high-back Vitra Alcove sofas create a quiet space within the double height atrium space.
In spite of the contractor falling behind, our project team worked over the weekend and late in order to finish our installation in time for the building’s opening. The end results are very worthwhile – we are extremely pleased with this project.
