Ralph Capper along with three of Extentia Group’s specialist brands – Styles&Wood, SpaceInvader and GDM, worked with the Market Halls team to deliver the 14,500sqft extension at intu Lakeside.

Ralph Capper worked in close collaboration with Market Halls to ensure the brief was fully understood and developed as they had a clear idea of how they wanted the space to operate and function. Their vision for this unique concept and a first of its kind in the region, was to create a brand-new casual dining destination for intu Lakeside’s 20 million annual visitors.

The Hall is the first out-of-town offering from award-winning operator Market Halls, who already run two successful venues in London and forms part of a £72million extension at intu Lakeside.

Designed to evoke the theatre and energy of street food from across the globe, Market Halls wanted the furniture to appear welcoming and to reflect their brand, and that of the local independent food and drinks operators.

This was achieved using a combination of standard and bespoke products which we allowed us to tailor to specific space dimensions and finishes, matching design intent and ultimately maximised dining capacity.

Furniture was also used to marry up the industrial backdrop with the structures of the building though clever uses of finishes and materials. We worked with our bespoke manufacturing partners to produce highly tailored solutions using unusual manufacturing techniques including, scrubbed, beaten wooden topped tables.

Using vintage beech seating together with gun metal design classic stools, we were able to add character that heightened the industrial urbanised design intent without detracting from the original design aesthetic of the building.

To add the finishing touches – an accent of red tabletops were introduced, infusing the space with colour and warmth whilst representing the Market Hall branding.

Dean Pettitt, Director at Ralph Capper commented “this project has provided the opportunity for the Ralph Capper Interiors team to demonstrate our skills in tailoring a solution to the clients specific brief, blending standard and high-quality products with individual one-off variations in finishes and aesthetic. This is the second scheme we have delivered for the client and look forward to working alongside them as they continue to grow”

“This is an exciting new avenue for Market Halls, with The Hall providing a new and vibrant social dining option for the 20 million visitors to intu Lakeside every year. We were delighted to partner with Extentia Group who helped realize our vision for the space.” commented Simon Anderson, CCO of Market Halls.

Ralph Capper are currently on-site working with Market Halls on their soon to open flagship destination on Oxford Street in Central London, which when completed will become the largest food hall in the United Kingdom.
